About This Product

This half ounce Maple Leaf holds 15.55 grams of .9999 fine gold and comes from the Royal Canadian Mint. The design follows the one ounce issue exactly — sugar maple leaf reverse, the monarch's portrait on the obverse, and the weight, purity and Canadian face value struck into the surface, along with the radial line finish and micro-engraved privy mark used on current issues.

Fractional coins exist for a practical reason: they lower the cost of a single purchase, let a position be built in steps, and allow a smaller amount of gold to be sold at one time. The trade-off is cost per gram. Striking, packaging and handling a half ounce coin costs the mint nearly as much as a full ounce, so the premium over metal value is higher.

Buyers often mix sizes for that reason, holding larger units for weight and fractional coins for flexibility.

NGB stocks the half ounce Maple Leaf in Hong Kong with pricing linked to the live gold market; collection is by appointment in Wan Chai.
